Sankasia

Introduction
SankasiaSankisa or Sankasia is small but an important Buddhist tour destination. Tradition says that this is the place where all the buddhas descend to Earth. Lord Buddha descended here after teaching Abhidhamma to his mother for the three months in Tushita (Satisfaction) heaven. The event is celebrated as Lhabab Duchen in Tibet. On his way to the Earth, Brahma (The Creator God) and Indra (Rain God) escorted the Enlightened One. A temple marks the place where both of them descended. Then follwed the years of teachings and debate of Buddha, culminating into the conversion of thousands of people. Budddha Maitreya - the future Buddha- was born here during the lifetime of Buddha himself. Chinese pilgrims, Fa-Hien and Hiuen Tsang had visited this place mentioning the pilgrimage as 'Sankis-a' or 'Kapittha' in their respective travelogues.
