Introduction
Boasting a glorious history of 600 years, the city of Pune has come a long way since the time when it was a small agricultural settlement during the 8th century. Previously known as Punnaka, Pune was ruled by the Rashtrakutas. The Mughals and the Marathas also ruled over the region for a long time. Location & Climate

The palace symbolises the colonial style of architecture.

» Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum : Another site to visit is the Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum - a one-man collection. The museum is a storehouse of around 17,000 artifacts including the everyday items of use and antiques from the past. Here, you can see ornamental doors, miniatures and numerous items of jewellery.

» Jewish Synagogue : The Lal Deval Jewish Synagogue is a famous tourist attraction in Pune. The synagogue was built by David Sassoon in 1867. It is a fine example of the Gothic style of architecture. Jews being very small in number, the Jewish Synagogue is rarely in use here.

» Saras Baug : Saras Baug is the place where you can come across with a number of Puneites in the evenings. The park also houses the Ganesha Temple that was erected by Madhava Rao Peshwa. Rolling lawns and beautiful flower beds add to the charm of the place.

Pune is easily approachable through air, rail and road routes. The airport at Pune has direct links with Delhi and Mumbai. The air journey from Mumbai to Pune spans 20 minutes. From Delhi, it takes 2 hours to reach Pune by air. You can also take a train from Mumbai to Pune. There are regular bus services between Mumbai and Pune. Buses also ply from Pune to places like Aurangabad, Mahabaleshwar and Goa.
